CONTRACT DETAILS
The first page is the articles of agreement, the Official boxing contract to the Japan Boxing Commission and is dated August 9, 1971. This is the agreement to the fight between the promoter Prime Organization International Co Ltd and Muhammad Ali. The contract states that the fight will take place on April 1, 1972 in Tokyo, Japan and Ali will be paid $200,000, the promoter will supply transportation from New York-Tokyo-New York and supply room and board for 10 people for 30 days and not to exceed the sum of 10,000 yen (approx $120) per person per day. Neither Ali or Foster can weigh less that 176 lbs for the fight. The boxer agrees to make his presence available no less that 14 days prior to the above agreed date of contract. There are other provisions about rules, fouls, protective cup and rules to protect the Japan Boxing commission of any liability in this bout. The front page is a yellow rice paper material and is signed by the Prime Organization International president Akira Hida and the Chief producer Yoshio Kou.
There are two contracts that are written by Chauncey Eskridge who was the legal counsel for Dr Martin Luther Kings and was with him in the Memphis, Tennessee motel when he was assassinated, he also represented Ali in th early 70's for his evading the draft charge for the Vietnam war.
The first one is dated December 20,1971 and is written to Mr, Kou that he has received $50,000 to be held in escrow for the following purposes.
That they receive a letter-committment form Herbert Muhammad for the bout.
There are nine other provisions he wrote about the financial arrangements.
The second one is a rice paper material and again it is to Mr. Kou and is a proposed letter fo credit for their bank. There will be a $120,000 payment on April 3, 1972 as long as the fight takes place is transferred to Amalgamated Trust and savings Bank of Chicago, in favor of Muhammad Ali and Herbert Muhammad.
A letter from Prime Organization Internationals Chief Producer Yoshio Kou that confirms reservations for 15 rooms at the Hotel Okura from March 6th to April 10th.
A letter dated April 11, 1972 from the promoters President Akira Hida to Muhammad Ali c/o Robert Arum confirming payment of $160,000 in actual funds and $40,000 to the Japanese Government for income tax.
